New Member Testimonials

If you are reading this because you are considering joining the Schussmeisters, I have one piece of advice for you - Just do it! My wife and I are new members just this year. There are so many great things about this group that I think there is something for everyone to get excited about.  Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you’ll find a fun way to pass the winter with the Schussmeisters.  The free lessons are a great way to improve your skiing or boarding – and they are taught by dedicated, expert instructors.  I was impressed with the professionalism of this organization, its meetings are well run and its events are first class. But don’t get me wrong, first and foremost these folks like to have fun!  It’s the people who make this club. They are genuinely excited to share the joy of skiing and camaraderie – please consider visiting to see for yourself!

Thanks for a fun winter! Stacy and Abby Merrill

I believe the Schussmeister Club is a great organization for those who love the sport of skiing and snowboarding. The club is made up of skiers/snowboarders of all ages who go out just to have a good time, learn additional skills, and spend time with others who enjoy doing the same thing.

The members of this club are all loving to one another and welcome new members and guests with a warm hand. I have never seen a group composed of members young to old be so closely-knit and have as much fun as they do.

My First Western Trip With The Schussmeisters.

Being a Schussmeister for just two years, this was my first Western trip with the club. What a blast! One of, if not the best vacation I have had in my entire adult life. I came to ski and ski I did. Six full days and I expected my legs and knees to need a break after three. My legs and knees held up great but I must admit I am feeling it now. I have skied Summit County several times before even with more powder days, however, the camaraderie of the ski club made this the best!! From skiing
steep powder glades with Mike to high speed groomer runs with my new friend Ken Thompson to NASTAR with Al. Each day provide plenty of thrills for this adrenalin junky. I will spend my summer riding quads with my son at the sand dunes and road trips on my Harley all the while thinking back on the 08-09 ski season. The best to date for me! I want to thank Mike Shea for putting together an affordable trip that was such a blast. I am looking forward to many more.

You always hear all these wild stories about how crazy skiers are, crashing, breaking legs and such. Pretty much the same things I've always heard about motor-cycling.  By now I'm largely immune to such non-sense, education and years of riding experience has taught me otherwise.   On a motorcycle, how you handle the ride is mostly a question of the skill you develop through training and experience. After that, it's up to you just how wild you choose to make the ride. So, rather naturally, when I decided to learn to ski, I figured it couldn't be any more wild than a typical dual-sport trek through the mountains. Upon exploring the options for learning to ski, I came back with the Schussmeisters as the strongest choice.

I found the ski instruction with the Schussmeisters to be both excellent and exactly the case as I hypothesized above. All and all the lessons were both fun and challenging, all the while expanding my comfort zone. With the instructors focusing on the fundamentals of balance and control as well as proficiency, and lots of practice, I quickly progressed from very beginner to intermediate skills. By the end of the season, I was not only skiing confidently with the Schussmeisters on all of the trails at Mt. Holly, but also ventured out on my own over all of the slopes at Mt Brighton and Pine Knob.

At the weekly meeting / ski nights and subsequent gathering of Schussmeisters in the lodge, joining the Schussmeisters proved not only to be a great way to learn to ski, but also a great way to ski, period. The Schussmeisters are a very fun loving, friendly, and generally sociable group of people. On the hill and in the lodge contests / activities entertained everyone and help break the ice.  Thanks to the Schussmeisters, I look forward to the next year of experiencing the even more challenging runs of Northern Michigan, Ontario and the Western Ranges, as well as the general fun of skiing and hang'n with the Schussmeisters week in and week out.
