The end of the 07/08 ski season is here and I do want to say thank you to everyone who helped out on the bus I have been past president for a week now and I am already suffering adjustment issues! Just kidding… It has been an amazing four years and a wonderful learning experience for me. When you serve on the Board of Directors for one year, you come to know your Board members rather well. But multiple years with Board members bring you to a new level of understanding people. In looking back over the past four years, one thing in particular stands out to me and that is the uniqueness of each of the four Board of Directors. Each year brought some new and some former Board members together as one unit to serve for the good of the club. It was fascinating to really look at each Board member as they were speaking and not only listen to what was being said, but to also observe the personality traits that came along with the dialogue. The ideas, opinions and thoughts that came forward were reflections of each person’s framework; education level, expertise, work ethic and cultural background – all of these things played a part in the discussions that resulted in decisions made. Each person brought such remarkable individuality, personal flair, and unique talent to the table. The diversity of each Board is what kept us from becoming stagnant. In order to continue to exist, we must be forward thinking and progress with changing times. It is important to strive to offer our members similar benefits that other highly successful clubs offer in order to keep our members interested in being a part of our club. It is nice to remember how things used to be, but focusing on it and trying to keep things the same is detrimental. We have been blessed to have member John Murieko show us what magic he could perform with our web site. The emails complimenting the site continue. Now that we are utilizing email communication, we are finally in line with the majority of the ski clubs across the nation. Email has allowed us the opportunity to notify our members of events and changes immediately as opposed to waiting for the next newsletter to arrive in the mail; sometimes arriving after the event or not arriving at all. There were a few times I happened to be invited to a members house, only to see a couple of newsletters, unopened, on the kitchen counter with other mail. Or better yet, one member had unopened newsletters shoved in his tool and junk drawer in the kitchen. Those newsletters were paid for out of our budget. Now, with email and our web site, people can choose whether or not to open it, but it doesn’t cost us anything if they choose not to. I want to thank those members of the Board who stepped up to the plate and began the tedious task of reading each by law, researching their ideas, and emailing their suggestions for improvement. Their efforts resulted in our proposals being presented at this last Election Banquet. I would like to extend a special expression of gratitude to the 80 members who arrived to create a voting quorum and enable us to make the necessary changes to our by laws. Our laws were good laws, but some had become outdated, or did not pertain at all any longer. It was time to make the wording of our by laws current with laws, rules and regulations. Thank you all for making this goal a priority and assisting in this great accomplishment. I am so proud of you. We are very fortunate to have this newly elected Board of Directors as our leadership team Their combined knowledge of club administration will be quite an asset to us. Thanks everyone, once again, for your support over the last four years as it was certainly my pleasure to serve you. Carla and Brenda, please take special note as this is the last time you will see this next line in print… Hugs from your Snow-buddy! Terry Click to go to top of page
Purpose 1 Proposal 4
I would like to start by thanking Dee for the tie she gave me. You were right, it is me as you can see below. Also, Pat and everyone else who did so much to make our Spring Banquet so nice. Good news, between the people who showed up and the people who stopped by just to vote, we had a quorum so we changed the by laws. As you have read which by-laws passed and what one did not pass. Everyone was dress nicely; a little different seeing people dressed so nice as apposed to in there winter ski gear. Jim presented the ski trophies from the Club Race. Terry presented a repeat broken bone award to Ron Blakemore for his western trip broken bone. Dee tried to get rid of some of the stuff people lost on various ski trips. One thing we did not get resolved was who will be the next Activities Director, so for the time being we are without one. We got down to the fun stuff and danced the night away. As you can see everyone had a great time and once again, thanks Pat, Ann and Carole for a great Spring Banquet. For photos of the Spring Banquet go to Schussmeisters Photo Album
